Mechanics of Social Change: A Dynamic Model is an interdisciplinary nonfiction book that applies engineering principles to understanding people, relationships, institutions, and societal change.

Author Donald W. Dareing proposes that society can be examined much like a mechanical system: social environments create \u201cforces,\u201d while individuals and communities respond to those forces. He represents human development through three interconnected dimensions:
\u2022\tPersonal identity, self-worth, and self-esteem
\u2022\tRelationships and interactions with others
\u2022\tSpiritual, ethical, and moral growth

Using concepts such as force, motion, leverage, equilibrium, structural strength, friction, vibration, fluid flow, and material failure, Dareing draws parallels between physical systems and social behavior. For example, social division is compared to structural cracking, communication serves as a bridge, education provides leverage, and migration is explored through fluid-mechanics models.

The book also examines how technology, economics, politics, industrialization, inequality, leadership, and historical events shape the social environment. Its discussions range from the Industrial Revolution and advances in transportation to human rights, wealth distribution, political instability, cultural conflict, and migration.

At its heart, the book argues that healthy societies depend on respect, compassion, human dignity, education, cooperation, moral character, and rational decision-making. Harmful environments characterized by hatred, disrespect, inequality, and inflexibility weaken both individuals and institutions.

Rather than claiming to predict human behavior mathematically, the author presents engineering models as conceptual tools for evaluating social pressures and understanding how change occurs.
