Barriers.. annoyances.. coincidences.. blessings.. opportunities?

How do you view your encounters with others? How do you view the different circumstances in your own life? There is something to be said about our perspective on such things and the way that perspective impacts our own lives and contentment as well as that of those around us.

Reflections takes us on a journey of examining the way we view our interactions with others as well as various experiences that life may throw at us and challenges us to think deeper about the way we respond and why. Is it possible that a collective shift in perspective could change the very world we live in? Is love really all we need?

In a world filled with so much hate and division, Rich believes change is possible. He shares both proud and vulnerable moments from his own life to inspire the reader to take a step back and reflect on how they approach similar moments in theirs. Reflections is sure to inspire awareness and promote positive change. If we\u2019re not careful, it just might spark a movement.

After years and years of fighting, arguing, drug over doses and suicide threats we had no idea of how we could make it through the next day. We were being held hostage by my 19 year old step daughter who would threaten to kill herself if she didn\u2019t get what she wanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We couldn\u2019t just give into her nor could we not take her threats seriously. In the midst of yet another argument, she played the \u201cI\u2019ll kill myself\u201d card again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being beyond the point of extreme frustration and hopelessness, I got up and walked calmly to our closet returning with my gun. I placed the gun in her lap, looked into her eyes and said, \u201cGo ahead, just do it\u201d. I promised her we would give her a nice funeral and take good care of her remains. I then said \u201cjust do it or shut up about it\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She paused for a few moments and looked at the gun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were a normal middle class family living in the suburbs trying to have a regular life like anyone else. With years and years of fighting and battling, a normal life is one we didn\u2019t know would ever be possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was first a married guy without kids then a step dad and eventually a father. I have seen the effects of divorce from many angles and the toll it takes on entire families and the kids. I saw it in my own home in ways I would never have believed. Mix in some mental issues and it was a raging battle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having experienced all that, I want to encourage families to think hard about what a family breakup can do to the family at large. My hope is that sharing my experiences might help families stick it out and reap the blessing of not having given up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
