From a very young age, he showed an interest in the classics and continued that scholarly pursuit of knowledge even after immigrating as a teenager with his family to New Jersey. An outstanding student and enthusiastic player of soccer in his high school years, he concentrated on a teaching career in college. He studied at several universities overseas \u2014 in France, Italy and Mexico \u2014 and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1972. He has taught Romance languages and cultures for over thirty years in various schools in the Garden State.
