The Book

Like most fabulous mornings, the day dawned with Kookaburra’s laughter announcing the arrival of their daily guest, old Mr Sun. Sun stretched his limbs as he inched his way up the sky. Soon, his golden fingers danced gracefully on the sunflowers who, slowly and steadily, straightened their stalks and held up their faces.

The tallest of the sunflowers noticed something dropping from the sky. “Is the sky really falling or is it an acorn, like the one that thumped on Chicken Licken’s head?” she mused comically. However, she grew more and more fearful when she realised that whatever was dropping was getting bigger and faster as it neared her family garden.

Immediately, she stuck out her lanky stalk and caught the falling object right smack on her face. “Ouch! That hurts!” she groaned in pain. “I can’t hold on to it any longer!” she cried and let it roll down her pretty orange petals. She was so relieved to see her parents and siblings using their faces to form a spiral stairway to the grass below. Unable to hold on to it even for a second, the youngest of the sunflowers let the strange object slip pass her tiny, newly-bloomed petals. The flowers were overjoyed when the long green grass bent their soft blades to form a comfy nest where the object finally landed safely.

“Why, it’s an egg!” Kookaburra hooted, having witnessed the rollercoaster ride of the visitor from the sky.
