About the Author
Giovanni Pinto was born in Pescopagano, a quaint, historic town overlooking the Ofanto Valley in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. From a very young age, he showed an interest in the classics and continued that scholarly pursuit of knowledge even after immigrating as a teenager with his family to New Jersey. An outstanding student and enthusiastic player of soccer in his high school years, he concentrated on a teaching career in college. He studied at several universities overseas — in France, Italy and Mexico — and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1972. He has taught Romance languages and cultures for over thirty years in various schools in the Garden State. At one point a court interpreter, radio commentator, journalist, researcher, Prof. Pinto’s limitless energy led into a myriad of fields, but perhaps his utmost dynamism has been concentrated on his research on the history and biographies here in America of his native people — the Pescopaganesi, a proud community of hardworking people in the United States.
